Happy Solar Eclipse Day! Will you be watching? This is an NPR podcast I listened to that was super informative and here’s info from NASA on how to do so safely (I love that they mention wearing SPF).
And here’s my latest vlog! Details + additional thoughts written out below.
🎶 Kacey Musgraves Deeper Well Record — One of my favorite albums this year… so we got it on vinyl, which comes with a scented sleeve! She re-collab-ed with Boy Smells on this and I was nervous because I did NOT like the “Slow Burn” candle she made with them — found it to be very overwhelming. But the scent on this is subtle… “an earthy embrace of oakmoss, raspberry and sage” — not really my thing 🤣 but it makes sense (pun intended) for the music, and is not stinking up the vinyl storage section of our living room.
💙 I was gifted a big box from Sweed Beauty recently, a vegan/animal friendly company (founded by makeup artist Gabriella Elio) and couldn’t wait to try the Satin Eyeliner in Diana Blue. I’ve been using it almost daily as a way to perk myself up whenever I look in the mirror. I find that lining both the bottom and top of my eye can be a bit intense, so I stick to just the lid.
🎁 Sweed also sent some other products — not included in the video: the Lash Lift Mascara didn’t do much for me (clumped a lot and my stick-straight lashes got weighed down) but the Cloud Mascara did (lengthened and stayed put all day). And I can’t try on their No Lash Lash falsies yet because they don’t come with glue (would love any easy-to-use lash glue recs for the false-lash-challenged). However, I really like their best-selling Miracle Powder (I got it in Golden Medium) which is similar to Bare Minerals foundation (that I’ve been using for decades) — only, it has a bit of a glow to it, so you don’t look quite as flat/dull.
💄 Other makeup in the vlog:
Rare Beauty Positive Light Under Eye Brightener in Medium — even though it says “eye” I use this around my nose and lips. It’s soooo natural and looks like I’m barely wearing anything. I highly recommend this if you like the no-makeup-makeup look. Depending on when you read this and what your VIB status is, it should be part of the Sephora sale!
Well People Multi-Use Blush in Apricot (gifted) — This is such a pretty shade but I do have to keep reapplying it.
Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Eye Shadow Palette in Naturally Glam — I’ve had this palette for so long I’m surprised they’re still making it! I went through a real Jane Iredale phase years ago — one of the original “clean makeup” brands that actually stays put (see above).
Tarte Tarteist Pro Remix Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette — Another old eyeshadow that I’m shocked is around! The colors are VERY FUN but not something I wear often.
Elf Instant Lift Brow Pencil — This is a $3 eye brow pencil/brush that I reach for so much more than this $25 brow pencil by the brow queen.
🌊 ”Dare to Think Blue” Surf Bag (gifted) — This is a waterproof pouch made from up-cycled expired aviation life vests to keep your stuff safe while active in the water. Since I don’t surf — I was going to give it to my cousin Franny London, who does (she also sings/writes beautiful songs, check her out). But then I realized it could just be used as a money/hotel key holder for days at the beach on vacay — so I’m keeping it! Also, stay tuned for a future Yellow Pages post with co-founder Cathy Chin.
🩴 I had never heard of the brand Dolce Vita before, but you can find a lot of their shoes at Nordstrom’s. They reached out and gifted me these new Starla Sandles (in Black/Multiwoven) which I styled with the outfit below and have been loving. They’re comfy, sturdy, go with everything, and give me the whole “Dad Sandal” vibe without feeling too much (I went too far with a pair of Croc Mega-Crush Platforms and almost fell over in them.) They retail for $120 and don’t require break-in time, unlike my beloved Arizona Birkenstocks. I am usually between a size 7.5-8 and went with the 7.5.
🪵 Dolce Vita also sent me this colorful wooden shoulder bag — but as cute as it is, it smells a bit and the stink didn’t go away until a week after. Also, the wood makes a lot of noise and doesn’t carry too much stuff, so I’m not sure I’d recommend it (especially for $158).
🖤 This Cotton Slip Dress may not be available still since it was running low when I ordered it… I was a fan of Gary Graham’s designs on Making the Cut Season 2 and was shocked when I saw this dress for only $35. I’ve been having issues with silkier slip dresses hugging my stomach (an area I have history with) so I am beyond thrilled with how both these options fit on my body. It can be worn loose/open or tied up. Also love that I can dress it up/down as a vacation option. There aren’t too many sizes left and the different patterns vary drastically in price. Here are his other designs on Amazon too.
👚 Gen X Taste shirt under the dress — There are two people in the world who own these and I know both of them. LOL. I can start all sorts of exclusive shirt clubs between this and the penguin one.
