I mentioned wearing fake roses when the “pops of red” trend was starting to bloom last fall. Since then, I got myself a bunch of fake flower pins and have been attaching them absolutely everywhere.
I love wearing them and they are a super cheap way to add fun to a very simple outfit.1
FYI I didn’t put one on my nose… that’s a zit patch - but I’ll explain the title of this post now…
A few years ago, Abe and I were arguing over something completely forgettable and I ended the conversation with this:
Me: Well, pin a rose on your nose!
Abe: Huh?
Me: Pin a rose… on your nose?
Abe: ????
Me: It’s a saying.
Abe: That most definitely is NOT a saying. Who says that?
Me: Stephanie.
Abe: Stephanie who?
Me: Tanner!!!2
A quick search produces few results, almost all of them linking this phrase to a fictitious Full House character. But also, a few people have said it comes from a longer saying (that nobody says): “Pin a rose on your nose and watch it grow."
Translation: “What do you want, a medal?” or “Nobody gives AF about your bragging.”
(Check out the floral pins in this post).

Maybe they’ll make a comeback ;)
