So I’m just going to share some 100% free resources I’ve been using to help me put a little cash back into my pocket — and for me, that’s satisfying enough — without having to figure out how to become a full-on point hacker.
AwardWallet — I’ve been using this site for years to keep track of all my different point/mileage accounts. I have the basic account, and although the site’s user experience feels dated, I don’t know of any other place to easily keep track of everything.
Bilt Credit Card — If you pay rent, you need this card, because it’s the only way to receive points on that type of payment. (It was actually co-founded by TPG and they did talk at length about it in the aforementioned podcast.) The annual fee is $0 and it was easy to set up a check to my landlady without any additional costs. The metal black card is really sturdy and makes me feel important, too.
BuyNothing Groups — AKA probably the only reason I still have a personal Facebook account? I have found it confusing to list several things at once because the threads get cluttered — and there is rarely anyone who wants my half-used nailpolish AND my old mugs AND my candles that smell too strong. So if I’m getting rid of something, I list them separately.
Ibotta — You save the offer in your account, shop at a store (or sometimes online) and scan the receipt (or link your account) for cashback. This is like coupon clipping. Which could drive you mad, but I grew up licking S&H green stamps so it kinda relaxes me?!
Honey — This is a browser extension that will find coupon codes when you shop online. You can also link your PayPal to pay for extra points (they’re owned by PP).
Rakuten — Simlar to Honey, Rakuten sometimes has codes but also gives you cashback, which they pay quarterly. Link your credit card for in-person purchases.
Library Apps — Probably my two most used apps. If you have a library card, you can borrow audiobooks/e-books for free via Libby and watch some amazing curated films via Kanopy (I once curated a list for them too).
Target Circle — Including this because I shop there a lot and they often offer gift cards as incentive for things I’m buying anyway.
GoodRx — Drug and prescriptions savings.
What are some apps/site/programs that you find useful? Please share!
