Gen x Taste is a lifestyle blog and newsletter for those who still don’t know what they want to be when they grow up (even if they’re over the age of 40).
I am not one of those freelancers who insists on putting on “real clothing” and makeup even if I’m working from home all day. Pre-pandemic, I was someone who rented clothing regularly from Rent the Runway (here’s a list of past favorites) but now, unless I’ve got an audition or a meeting, I literally wear pajamas all day.
To be clear, they’re not “officially” pajamas. I do own a few nightgowns (this Lanz of Salzburg one is something I plan on wearing in the summer) but lately I’ve just been wearing, kinda… full on outfits to sleep. That’s because I always shower at night, put on the pjs (or in this case, the not pjs) and then in the morning I’ll run around the house doing my morning routine and then throw a sweater/shirt over the (not) pjs as my wardrobe for the day.
Here’s what I’ve been wearing lately.
This Mister Softee shirt is one of my favorites, found in the men’s section at a thrift store. You can’t see the back but the logo is also there too. There are other versions online, but I can’t seem to find this exact one. The bottoms are Quilted Abercrombie shorts, also old.
Here’s an example of how I throw a shirt on the following day. This is an old Phoebe Bridgers concert T-shirt with Neiwai bike shorts. The button down shirt is by Rails (similar here).
Another favorite T-shirt, but this one has sentimental value. It was Abe’s grandmother’s (“The Bubs” as we called her) from the 1984 LA Olympics. It is so perfectly worn and sheer and I think I will die the day it finally forms holes in it. The grey shorts are from Target and I think they’re pretty solid for the price, though I could use a little more length.
I washed my hair (which is why it’s up in a microfiber towel) and thought I looked like a ballet dancer. This was when the weather was a little “colder” (for LA) and I wore this matching thermal set from Amazon. It’s very warm and very cozy, but I HATE the name of the brand so I refuse to write it.
I hoped wearing Abe’s Illadelph T-shirt would help the Sixers in the NBA Playoffs, but alas, it didn’t happen. It did bring me good luck at The Grove, however, where I ran into a bus filled with samples of my favorite leave-in conditioner (and their mascot)!
P.S. The Nike Slides I’m wearing (similar here) in almost every single photo are my house slippers. I’ve had them for probably 5 years and they’re still holding up. You can see more of my current closet on Shop My.

I’m obsessed that you have a Mister Softee shirt. It’s my favorite ice cream because of intense childhood Long Island nostalgia. Recently found a storefront in Camarillo and it was the best day.
