Hello Lynn,

Saving Face is one of my favorite movies (along with Lisa Ray and Sheetal Sheth's I Can't Think Straight). If you don't mind where were some filming locations in NYC that you can share? I visited the East Buffet in Flushing. There is Cherry Lane Theater and TWA in JFK.

The only one I can really remember is by the Hudson River for the breakup scene!

Thank you for sharing! This was such an awesome movie, definitely one of my all time favourites as it filled me with joy of representation of Asian culture.

It’s a pity for audiences that there is no chance for a sequel cause seeing that families 20 years later with the “new” kids would be awesome :) but I respect Alice’s choices, although arrrrgggghh!! 🙃

Also this post reminds me that unfortunately the only way I was able to watch (and rewatch), Saving Face was the pirated way (I’m from Borneo), I always try to rectify this when I have the opportunity to do so for queer and/or independent films so will definitely see if I can get the release.

Even after 20 years, if there’s a strong script ready, would there still be a chance for a sequel directed by Alice?

Sadly Alice has made it very clear she has no intention of ever making one.

Oh, I didn’t know that. I actually just watched the movie last week. I think it’s incredible how impactful your work was, to the point that 20 years later, it reached me all the way in Brazil :)

That premiere is at the "Loews" (now AMC) 19th Street where I'll be spending most of my early June for the Tribeca Film Festival. Definitely gonna order this Criterion.
