THIS WEEK’S ROUNDUP
On Substack
I tried “The Wrong Shoe Theory” for a few months (paywalled)
On IG
For all the hardcore Saving Face fans, the entire two-hour Instagram Live I did for Pluto TV with my co-star Michelle Krusiec and writer/director Alice Wu can be re-watched here — and the movie can be streamed on demand too.
What I’ve Been Spending Money On
🍽️ We don’t really use dinner-size plates too often, mainly giant bowls and salad plates. I wanted something a little more intentional than the random collection we’ve amassed over the years, so I got these stackable, 8-inch plates with a flat bottom and a high rim. They’re on Amazon for $23, are microwave safe, and they bring me joy every time I use them.
🌎 Just saying the words “Diatomaceous Earth” makes me feel like a scientist but really all I know (kinda) is that it’s made from fossilized algae and used in everything from pesticide to drinking water. It’s high in silica, which is why it sops up water immediately, and has been a game changer in the bathroom/kitchen. My soap dispensers were constantly dripping down/pooling up water. Not anymore! I bought it in coaster form and the bottoms have stayed bone dry ever since.
🩹 Sio BrowLift Patches — I’ve been trying non-Botox methods faithfully, for the last year (mainly this much-hyped combo) and Frownies. Plus my everyday microcurrent/red light routine. And just like everything else, these silicone patches don’t work for me. Nothing works anywhere near as well as Botox (which I wrote more about here). Next up — laser facials? I’ve never done one, or microneedling…
💆🏻♀️ But something I will never ever give up is my monthly massage, an indulgence that helped me overcome my eating disorder in 2009 and the only time I skipped it was 2020-2022, for obvious reasons. Thanks to the Substack recommendation of
(who designs some of my favorite handbags) I have discovered my newest massage soul mate, Amy Flanzbaum in Silver Lake. (Here is a list of other places in LA I like.)What I Was Sent
🌺 I’m the one who actually reached out to NYC-based botanical beauty brand Red Flower because Abe really liked their shampoo he tried at a hotel. To our surprise, they sent an entire gift package full of goodies: Moonflower Shampoo ($38), Conditioner ($42), Arctic Berry Cloud Milk Cream ($55) and their Illuminating Rose Collagen Renewal Face Serum ($98).
Watch the video below to see/hear my thoughts — since recording I did try both of the hair products once (and liked it) but because my hair is so damaged from balayage I need to stick to my tried-and-true K18 shampoo and hair mask routine!
