ICYMI here is Part 1 of Skincare Month which I’m now realizing may have been a naming mistake, since I have so much more to share than one month will allow. So I’ll be doing multiple posts, some partially paywalled like this one, to balance it out…

For the last year I’ve seriously been toying with the idea of getting Botox again (actually, Dysport). The last time I got it was January 2023, in my forehead/crows feet area. But as I shared in this post, I have a lot of mixed feelings about this and want to hold off on it for as long as possible, to see if I can make myself happier at home without needing to get injected. My eye area doesn’t really bother me anymore, but my forehead definitely does.

So the first thing I have been trying are face patches. I’ve experimented with Frownies before and didn’t see results after a week so I stopped, but then I read you need to give it 30 days. So for the last two months, I have switched between those and these Smoothies silicone patches (much easier to apply/remove).

Frownies are much smellier and difficult to put on/off (they look much more ridiculous too) but they definitely keep the forehead more still than the Smoothies. Like I do with the Frownies, I take the Smoothies and sort of lay them out across my forehead in puzzle pieces, like a “cast.” And that, ultimately, is the philosophy behind face taping — you “train” parts your face not to move and make subtle scrunches while you sleep — and thus, you don’t deepen wrinkles.

I put them on about an hour after my nighttime skincare regime and don’t have a problem with either staying on. Neither make me break out and I prefer both more to the Sio patches, which need a completely dry surface to stick, and also don’t last for as many uses with a lot more $$$$.

Here are my tips for using them.

My aim is to keep these posts sponsor-free, so if you’d like to support me directly with a paid subscription, that would be very helpful. I write more about why I paywall my posts here. Please note: I do use affiliate links and may earn a commission when you purchase something here or via ShopMy Shelf and my Amazon Storefront.
