(my other Substack) — Guest !MORE ON SOCIAL
Instagram is where I’ve been sharing lately and having a lot of fun doing so, mostly via IG stories. You can follow me over @genxtaste for lifestyle stuff and @mslynnchen for career announcements — like this recent news from filmmaker Alice Wu (who directed me in my first movie Saving Face) — THE FILM IS GOING TO BE A CRITERION DVD NEXT SUMMER!!!!!!
THINGS I BOUGHT
FASHION
A&F: Mini Skort (my new favorite item it is perfect) and Sweatpants (I own these in several covers and they are what I reach for the most)
J. Crew: Boxer Shorts (I like these so much I purchased another color), Rollneck Sweater (my version is now sold out; I just bought Abe this version), and Denim Shirt (very soft and cozy)
Amazon: Umbros (better than I remember them being in the 90’s) Sweatshirt (size L), Fake Birkenstock Clogs (I got these to putter around the house in and I may got one to wear outdoors too)
Gap: High-Rise Pleated Trousers (I had to exchange these because one of the leg’s hem lines weren’t sewn in properly, but otherwise — they are really comfy and go with absolutely everything)
Madewell: Denim Mini Skirt (it runs a little loose in the waist and a tad bit short — like I can’t kneel down without flashing somebody — but I still love it)
ETC.
Since returning from Copenhagen I’ve bought a few items I saw in person at the Hay store - the dot pillows (in regular and XL), these candles, and these candle stick holders.
I’ve been wearing a weighted vest to add some muscle while I’m doing household chores. FYI I finally got rid of my old vacuums that I have had for 5+ years and bought a Dyson V8 Cordless (life-changing) during the current Amazon Prime Day sale.
iPhone 16! I switched phone carriers so I could upgrade from the 13 mini and I am very happy. Got this phone cover and screen protector, which was simple to attach (um, if you follow the directions).
THINGS I ATE (all gluten-free)
Honey Smoked Fish — Abe can’t stand the smell of fish cooking so this is a great ready-made version. Found it at Target.
Veggies Made Great — Also discovered at Target. I am obsessed with basically everything this company makes, both savory and sweet. This is their spinach egg white frittata which heats up in the microwave in 45 seconds.
Vital Proteins Plant-Based Powder in Vanilla — It doesn’t come with a scoop, huh?! I spoon a few tablespoons into hot, cooked oatmeal and mix in lots of fresh fruit. (P.S. my buddy/vegan chef
recently posted her recipe for a homemade, nut-free protein powder here).Modern Bread and Bagel — loved it in NYC and they’re now in Los Angeles! This is the brand new Beverly Hills location.
RECENTLY GIFTED
Bloomeffects Royal Tulip Vitamin C Oil — I really love everything this AAPI female-founded company puts out, but this might be my favorite product so far. It’s a 20% active THD Ascorbate with Squalane oil (my go-to oil since it never breaks me out) that is very stable and non-irritating. I use it as the last step in my skincare routine, even over Tretinoin (finally got a regular prescription from my doctor), and it works great.
I just received a PR package from Dr. Muneeb Shah’s skincare company Remedy and am very excited because I am always watching his YouTube videos. I’m currently trying out their products for Dry Lips, Body Bumps, and Dark Spots — too soon to tell if they’ll work long-term, but I’m already a fan of the packaging. Plus, the stuff feels great on my lips/skin.
